On 29th April 2011 Kate Middleton and Prince William got married in a ceremony which seemed a bit like a Disney movie becoming reality. My mother and I went to London on that day to soak up the atmosphere and to wander around and get a glimpse of glamour. After a stop in Hyde Park at 8 am and a trip in the ferris wheel, we headed over to Buckingham Palace, which already had been closed due to overcrowding. We then watched the wedding on a big screen in Green Park and left during the service to have lunch near Regent’s Street. I have never ever seen the big and busy shopping avenue so deserted!
After a pub lunch and watching the happy couple leave Westminster Abbey in a carriage on TV, we went back to Buckingham Palace, where we were lucky to see the RAF helicopter, and Prince Charles and Camilla leave the palace in their Rolls Royce. We then headed to Southbank, past Westminster Abbey and enjoyed the evening sun. Although London was full with visitors from all over the world, it didn’t feel that crowded (except around The Mall of course) and the atmosphere was relaxed and joyful.
